Increasing global demand for secure, dependable and safe energy is a 21st century imperative. With this new reality comes the recognition that long duration energy storage (LDES) is now critical infrastructure needed to meet demand.
Hydrostor is shifting the narrative from conceptual exploration to large-scale execution, proving that LDES is the essential missing piece for a reliable, resilient grid. Our momentum is driven by more than just proven technology, it is fueled by a world-class ecosystem of investment, equipment and construction partners committed to building the future of energy today.
As we advance our Willow Rock and Silver City projects toward construction and progress a 7 GW project pipeline, we want to recognize the network that is making this possible. They validate our readiness to deliver long‑duration energy storage (LDES) at scale, but they’re not just supporting this vision—they are helping us build it.
Global Institutional Investors
The foundation of Hydrostor’s momentum begins with some of the world’s leading financial backers. Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Canada Pension Plan Investments (CPP Investments) and Canada Growth Fund (CGF) are leading investors in our company. Their involvement affirms that Hydrostor has built the internal capabilities, leadership, and operational rigor required to deliver multi‑gigawatt portfolios across continents.
“Long‑duration storage is emerging as a cornerstone of global energy security and reliability. Hydrostor has shown the discipline and scale required to deliver advanced compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) around the world. We are confident that Hydrostor’s A-CAES technology is a proven, low cost LDES solution for the electricity grid of the future and we’re proud to support a company leading the infrastructure build-out that will define the modern grid.” – Sebastien Gagnon, Managing Director and Head of Energy Private Equity, Goldman Sachs Alternatives
Global Engineering Expertise
Hydrostor’s ability to execute at scale is reinforced by construction and engineering partners who have a reputation of delivering complex energy and infrastructure projects around the world, and the expertise to match.
Baker Hughes, a global leader in energy technology solutions and project delivery, brings decades of experience in energy infrastructure projects. Their involvement, which includes equity investments and a strategic technology solutions agreement, underscores the maturity of Hydrostor’s development pipeline and the readiness of our projects to move into construction.
“Hydrostor’s innovative approach offers a low-carbon solution to ensure power reliability across a diverse mix of generation resources. We are proud to support Hydrostor with critical technology to accelerate these projects, supporting greater global grid resilience, and enabling sustainable power systems at scale.” said Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes.
Innovative Utilities are Buying In
Hydrostor’s customers represent some of the most innovative and future‑focused organizations in the energy sector who require proven, bankable solutions, and who have realized that lithium-ion batteries won’t get them to their storage goals.
California Community Power (CC Power), and Central Coast Community Energy (3CE), one of California’s largest community choice aggregators, are advancing major clean‑energy portfolios and have chosen Hydrostor to support their LDES needs.
“Hydrostor’s Willow Rock project brings much-needed grid benefits to California by providing reliable long-duration energy storage capacity using domestic content, off-the- shelf turbomachinery and only air and water to store energy,” said Alexander Morris, CC Power’s General Manager. “CC Power strives to advance California’s energy goals by contracting with novel, high-potential technologies and is excited to partner with Hydrostor on this innovative energy storage solution that improves reliability and diversifies California’s grid while supporting local employment and investment.”
Looking ahead
Our expanding collaboration with Baker Hughes strengthens our ability to deliver complex energy infrastructure with world‑class engineering and project execution. Our offtake agreement with California Community Power demonstrates that forward‑thinking utilities are ready to integrate long‑duration storage into their portfolios. And the final approval for Willow Rock marks a major regulatory achievement that clears the way for construction of one of the world’s most advanced LDES facilities.
