First offtake deal signed for 500MW/4,000MWh advanced compressed air energy storage project in California

We have entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) for a 200 MW/1,600 MWh portion of its planned 500 MW/4,000 MWh Willow Rock Energy Storage Center in California.
This facility, set to be operational by 2028, will be connected to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power grids.
Hydrostor’s A-CAES technology, which does not require thermal power for operation, uses flooded rock caverns to maintain air pressure and is considered more efficient and space-saving than traditional compressed air methods.
The company is currently developing additional large-scale storage projects in California and Australia, totaling around 9 GWh.
Hydrostor’s projects, including Willow Rock, aim to provide competitive, long-duration storage solutions to support renewable energy integration and grid stability over their anticipated 50-year operational lifespan.
