We and Central Coast Community Energy have inked a groundbreaking $1 billion, 25-year energy storage deal.
Our Willow Rock Energy Storage Center in Kern County will deploy their advanced compressed air energy storage system (A-CAES), offering eight hours of storage to over 440,000 customers by 2030.
This agreement, among the largest in long-duration energy storage, signifies the commercial readiness of A-CAES technology.
With California aiming for 100% carbon-free electricity by 2045, projects like Willow Rock are crucial for integrating intermittent renewable energy sources.
Willow Rock will provide 500 MW of clean power for up to eight hours, charging with surplus renewable energy and discharging during peak demand.
Operating on a fraction of the land required for traditional pumped hydro facilities, it represents a significant leap in energy storage efficiency.
