California aggregator to buy capacity from compressed air storage project

16 Jan, 2023

  • We have signed a 25-year agreement worth nearly $1 billion with Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) in California for 200 MW/1600 MWh of energy storage.
  • This deal is part of our 500 MW compressed air energy storage project located in Kern County.
  • The storage system, which operates without fuels and occupies less space than traditional methods, will help 3CE achieve its goal of providing 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
  • The project, named Willow Rock, will use surplus renewable energy for storage and aims to reduce reliance on peak-demand power plants and extensive transmission infrastructure.
  • This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also promotes job creation and the transition of skills from the fossil fuel industry to renewable energy.
