California aggregator to buy capacity from compressed air storage project
16 Jan, 2023
We have signed a 25-year agreement worth nearly $1 billion with Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) in California for 200 MW/1600 MWh of energy storage.
This deal is part of our 500 MW compressed air energy storage project located in Kern County.
The storage system, which operates without fuels and occupies less space than traditional methods, will help 3CE achieve its goal of providing 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
The project, named Willow Rock, will use surplus renewable energy for storage and aims to reduce reliance on peak-demand power plants and extensive transmission infrastructure.
This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also promotes job creation and the transition of skills from the fossil fuel industry to renewable energy.
