The federal government has approved a conditional $45 million grant for a compressed air energy storage project near Broken Hill in outback New South Wales.
Leading this project, we aim to store wind or solar energy as compressed air for use as a backup energy source for the town.
The grant validates the project’s commercial viability and will support its construction.
Hydrostor is now working on acquiring a disused mine site for the project, with plans to create 250 jobs during construction and 70 jobs during operation.
The project is expected to provide a cleaner alternative to backup power generation for Broken Hill, ensuring reliable electricity supply for the Silver City.
