Broken Hill’s compressed-air energy storage project chosen as best back-up power supply option
26 May, 2022
Our compressed-air energy storage (A-CAES) project in Broken Hill has emerged as the city’s top choice for backup power supply, beating out options like refurbishing existing diesel turbines.
Transgrid, evaluating proposals, favored our plan projecting $286 million in net benefits over 27 years, offering more job opportunities and community benefits.
This project aims to repurpose a former mine to store up to 200MW of energy as compressed air, with construction slated for early to mid-2023 and completion expected by late 2025 to early 2026.
Regulatory approval is anticipated for cost recovery from consumers by 2025-26.
