Energy Storage for a Secure, Reliable Grid

Grid Scale Capacity

Delivering 500 MW (4,000 MWh) of dispatchable energy when and where it’s needed most

Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage

Our approach is as simple as it is powerful: When excess power is available on the grid, we run it through turbines, convert it to compressed air and pump in into large underground caverns. Once in the cavern it is stored as potential energy. When the grid needs that power back, we simply reverse the process. Innovations like heat capture and hydrostatic pressure improve our efficiency and allow us to site projects where they’re needed.

Featured projects

Proven, secure and flexible energy storage.

Our technology offers distinct advantages over alternative energy storage options, providing large-scale solutions for some of the world’s biggest energy challenges.

Reliable performance

Matches the reliability of thermal power plants, but with an emissions-free process.

Cost-effective with a long life

Low installed costs per kWh over a 50+ year lifespan.

Customized, adaptable system design

Scalable system is designed to match grid requirements. Incremental capacity and duration increases can be added in the future with limited downtime  and low marginal cost.

Essential grid services

Rotational inertia from spinning motors keeps the grid stable. Other ancillary services include voltage support, spinning reserve, black start, and frequency response.

Flexible siting

Purpose-built hard-rock caverns can be built where the grid needs support most, unlike traditional CAES or pumped hydro.

Significant economic benefits

Creates high-quality jobs for skilled trades, enforcing regional infrastructure and boosting local industry.
