1.5GWh compressed air project is preferred energy storage option for Australian city
27 May, 2022
Our advanced compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) technology has been chosen as the preferred solution for supplying backup energy to Broken Hill in rural New South Wales, Australia.
The proposed 200MW/1,500MWh Silver City Energy Storage Center aims to integrate renewable energy into the grid.
Transgrid, the transmission network operator, identified it as the optimal project in a recent assessment report.
Our technology, which stores compressed air underground, offers a cleaner alternative to aging diesel generators.
With a round-trip efficiency of about 65%, it outperforms traditional compressed air systems and is easier to site and construct than pumped hydro energy storage.
We plan to have the project operational by 2025 and has received significant investment commitments from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
